Alysha Rose - A-Channel's Amazing Kid
by Gord Ritchie - Tuesday, 17 January 2012, 10:33 AM

Alysha Rose is fourteen years old and has just begun grade nine at Stelly’s Secondary School. She attended Bayside Middle School for three years, and achieved honour roll with distinction every term, as well as the Award of Excellence every year.

She placed first for two consecutive years at the provincial Concours D’Art Oratoire (a French speaking competition that most French immersion students across Canada participate in each year.) She volunteers her time as a tutor to her peers at Stelly’s, and was a peer tutor to two struggling students last year at Bayside.

She’s also an avid quilter. Her quilts and other sewn projects have won first place for many years at the Saanich fair, and have also won multiple special awards, (best exhibit, Quilters’ Guild award, etc.) She was involved in a volunteer project that sent quilts to African orphans, and is currently working on a project to make quilts for premature babies at Victoria General Hospital.

Alysha’s full schedule keeps her busy, but her bright outlook on life is infectious to those around her. Because of all this and more, she truly is an Amazing Kid. (Source: CTV Website)

The Pajama Game Sells out Again!
by Gord Ritchie - Friday, 13 January 2012, 02:37 PM

Pierce
For the second night in a row and the final night of show, the Pajama Game will be standing room only for those who haven't purchased a ticket in advance. This years Senior Musical, "The Pajama Game", has been a huge hit. Maybe you enjoyed watching "Babe" Williams (Emily Golumbia), head of the Grievance Committee, and Superintendent Sid Sorokin (Josh Graetz) fall in love? Maybe you enjoyed watching Vernon Hines (Zack Van Den Bussche), the Time Study efficiency expert, demonstrate his knife throwing ability? Or maybe you just enjoyed watching Old Man Hasler (Pearse Wolfe-Liblong) be Old Man Hasler. Whatever your taste, there certainly was something for everyone.

Performing four evenings in a row the performers just keep on getting better and better and with the addition this year of the "Dinner-Theater" option, thanks to the Teaching Kitchen and it's volunteers, the overall feedback has been outstanding. Congratulations to Ms. Heinrichs, Ms. Cunningham, Ms. Bate, Mr. McDonald, the Musical Theatre Performers and the Stage Craft students for a spectacular week of entertainment.

Cunningham and McNamee Declared New Cribbage Champions
by Gord Ritchie - Tuesday, 3 January 2012, 02:41 PM

Cribbage Champions
Cribbage #2
In 2010 Mrs. Cunningham and Mrs. McNamee fell victim to a heartbreaking upset in the finals. However, the story was much different this year. After hours of disciplined training in the off-season, the dynamic duo redeemed themselves by going undefeated in both their regular season play and the playoff round. It was an extremely tight finish in the championship game against the Surf Sisters but good fortune allowed Cunningham and McNamee to claim the victory. Some spectators suggest that this change in luck may have been due to their newly appointed alternate while others just questioned the eligibility of the team altogether. Whatever your opinion, the fact is that these two play some darn good cribbage. Thanks to everyone for coming out we look forward to seeing you all next year.
