GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to all the performers at the last night’s coffee concert ... Bravo ... Such Amazing talent at Stelly’s. And Thank you to all those that came out to support the performers! The next coffee concert is Dec 5th!

Did you miss TA on Friday? Come to the office and pick up your student cards and photo proof!

Just a reminder that it is a Pro-D day tomorrow so school is NOT in session!

PHOTO RETAKES - MONDAY, OCT. 29th
Photo retake day is Monday, October 29th. If you missed Photo day or want retakes, this is the last chance to get them done. Just a reminder that all students in all grades need to have school photos taken, for school id purposes...Grade 12’s too - even if you are having grad photos taken.  Order forms are available in the office or you can order on the Lifetouch website.

Are you a Crafter or baker? Sidney Elementary is holding their 3rd Annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, November 17th. Grab a  friend and rent a table and sell your crafts or baked goods? Table rentals are only $20 . See the office for more details!

CAREER CENTRE

TRAINING & EDUCATION:
Food Safe Level 1 Training is happening this Friday, which is a Pro D day, at the Shoal Centre in Sidney. Also, on Saturday the Shoal Centre is offering a First Aid with CPR "C" & AED Certifcation training. Visit the Career Centre for more registration information for both of these opportunities.

CAMOSUN INNOVATES DESIGN CHALLENGE - Wednesday, November 7th. The South Island Partnership and Camosun Innovates are excited to have students (grade 9-12) up to the college this fall for a day of hands-on exploration. You will explore the Camosun Innovates space, do a hands-on design challenge, tour the Interurban campus, learn about dual credit, and become more familiar with the many courses and programs Camosun College has to offer.  

Have You Considered a Career in AVIATION and DESIGN?  School District #61 is hosting a semester long Aviation and Design Program @ Mt. Doug Secondary February - June 2019.   Partnering With Viking Air, Victoria Flying Club, Pacific Sky, VIH Aviation Group & Camosun College.  To register talk with Mr. Rhodes in the Career Centre.   APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 15, 2018.

Operation: This IS You! FREE career event for GIRLS - Esquimalt, BC - Saturday, October 20th

Day Sail on a Royal Canadian Navy Warship Activities include tours of ship duty stations, crew quarters and operational equipment; Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) joint search and rescue demonstration, ship firefighting simulation, and demonstration of the warship’s impressive manoeuvring capabilities. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Island Health and Saanich Peninsula Hospital have volunteer opportunities;  this is a great opportunity for students considering a career in health care. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in the Health Care Assistance Program. Duties would include helping with music and memories program - moving residents in wheelchairs - crafts and activities - play games - write letters - special events - have 1:1 visits for companionship - sharing your gifts and talents with residents. GRAD 2019

Grade 12's it's time to get started on your Graduation Transitions.  6 components are required; Daily Physical Activity (DPA), 30 hours, Budget, Questions, Resume , Cover Letter. GT paperwork is available online and in the Career Centre.

GRAD PHOTO BOOKINGS:  Grads ... Have you booked your online Grad photo appointment yet? Grad Photos start on Monday, October 29th. All grade 12 students need to sign up for an appointment as we encourage everyone to have a picture taken so that you are included in the yearbook.

GRAD POINSETTIA FUNDRAISER - All Grads are required to sell a minimun of 3 plants. Any plants sold above the initial 3 will put towards the cost of their dinner dance ticket. Forms are available on the Grad Board in the main foyer! Forms are due back Wednesday, October 30th.

INTERNATIONAL

VANCOUVER DAY TRIP - November 15th Forms are now available in the International Office for International Students interested in going on the Vancouver Day Trip on November 15th.

WHISTLER  SKI TRIP:  International Whistler Ski trip forms are available from Diane in the International Office. Sign-up ASAP if you want to go!

COMMUNITY

Assistant Cub and Beaver Scouter.  10th Tsartlip Scout Group have an opportunity for an Assistant Cub and Beaver Scouter.  Duties include helping or leading activities at regular meetings including:  games, crafts, practicing outdoor skills, leadership, and participating in some of the outdoor adventures with the Cubs or Beavers such as camps or hikes.  Volunteers are also expected to complete approximately 10 hours of training online including the Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders training and Scouts Canada Woodbadge training.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, complete a screening process, and be available for 3 meeting nights/month.  As a volunteer, you are not expected to pay for any required training or to attend Scout Activities at which you are volunteering. PARENTS AS CAREER COACHES Seminar: November 15th at 7pm at Stelly's.  Capilano University Instructor Marion Haythorne's presents this free seminar to help parents guide their children to make sound educational and career choices.

Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic in  Sidney is open today and every THURSDAY from 5:30 - 7:30pm with both a doctor and mental health clinician on hand.
