Did you know that BUS PASSES are free for all youth in the municipality of Victoria? Do you think that transit should be free for youth on the peninsula too? Let the transit commission know your opinion by writing an email. Drop by Rm 106 for more details.

Interested in learning more about the Wet'suwet'en  communities and the controversies around pipeline projects?  Students and staff are invited to watch the short documentary called "Invasion" at lunch today in room 152. Complimentary chili and rice will be served. Sponsored by our Indigenous leadership group.

PINK SHIRT DAY is Wednesday,Feb. 26th.  We encourage students to wear pink and participate in contributing to a positive, encouraging culture. We will also be taking a school picture of everyone wearing their pink shirts! Also  take a picture with your phone and put it on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook with #PinkShirtDay. Let's stop bullying by celebrating individuality and diversity.

Stelly's 1st Coffee Concert is happening on Wednesday, February 26th. The Stelly’s Coffee concerts are the perfect way to get involved in the school and to perform in front of a friendly live audience. Auditions will be held from February 18th-20th at lunchtime. Time slots for auditions will be posted on the band room door.

UVic School of Health Information Science Open House Today from 4:30pm - 6pm - Come and learn more about this exciting field by talking with faculty, students. and learn about the rapidly expanding field of information technology in healthcare!

Interested in Umpiring for the 2020 Baseball and Softball season? It’s fun, pays well, training is provided by taking the Level 1 course. Training courses begin in late February and run in March as well through the Greater Victoria area.The baseball level 1 course at Parkland High School runs in the evenings of Feb 24, 26 and 27th.   You must register first before taking the course.  For more information see the Career Centre Info Board. Women in Trades Exploration Day - Feb 26 - Camosun College is hosting a ‘Women in Trades Exploration Day’. This fun, hands-on day introduces students to trades in electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, and automotive... as well as tech fields like civil & mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science. Sign up now in the Career Centre to spend a day exploring trades and tech opportunities. The event is on WEDNESDAY Feb 26, 9:30-2:00 @ Camosun College Interurban Campus.

Camosun College Info Night - Interurban Campus – Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.  Campus Tours leave from the Bookstore, 2nd Floor 5:15, 6:00 and 6:45 pm. You’ll have the chance to attend information sessions, talk to faculty, staff, and current students, get an interactive experience with some programs, and find out more about the many services and supports available. BC Cancer – Victoria’s  Deeley Research Centre is pleased to be able to offer the Xavier Pelletier High School Internship Program (HSIP) to Grade 11 students in southern Vancouver Island. This program provides students the opportunity to explore cancer research from the front lines, learning the latest techniques in the fight against cancer. During the summer between Grades 11 and 12, students will be responsible for an 8-week research project which they will develop and implement from start to finish with continual support from a designated supervisor and a team of research scientists.  All secondary schools on Vancouver Island are eligible to nominate (two) Grade 11 students. On completion students will receive a $3,000 bursary toward post-secondary education. Application deadline is March 1, 2020 Ask your teacher, counsellor, or administrator to nominate you!! P&R Truck Centre Ltd. is currently looking for a shop person (cleaning, greasing trucks etc.) who are interest in getting their foot in the door at a Heavy Duty shop? This is a great opportunity to get in with a shop and be sponsored for an apprenticeship. The shifts would be evenings (after school) and Saturdays. This is an opportunity for students to meet local  businesses and hear about positions they might not have thought of as careers. Wages are well beyond minimum, & the companies have lots to offer. As this is an event held outside the classroom, students will be responsible for making their own arrangements to miss a day of classes and for transportation to the venue. BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, would like to invite Grade 10-12 - students to attend Mini Med School in Victoria, Thursday, April 2, 2020. At Mini Med School Victoria, students will learn about the latest in biomedical and clinical research through lectures with live demonstrations and hands-on experience that inspire and motivate further learning. As Mini Med School is a special event held outside the classroom, students will be responsible for making their own arrangements to miss a day of classes and for transportation to the venue. Admission is FREE. Student registration will be available online on Monday, February 10 at 4 p.m. at www.minimedschoolbc.ca. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited, so we encourage students to register as soon as registration opens.

 YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange is a national program offering opportunities for youth to improve their second official language skills, explore another part of Canada, and gain valuable work experience through a work placement while on the exchange. The program runs for 6 weeks (early July to mid August), you must be 16 or 17 years of age during the summer program. Panorama Recreation is hiring 3 positions for “Day Camp Assistant Leader” Duties include assisting in the facilitation of day camp activities and crafts; assisting in taking children on out trips. Magic Wand Project - Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys.
