GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Today the CAFETERIA has the choice of California Wrap, Chicken, Almond & Strawberry salad, Asian Meatballs on Rice with Veggies , Mac & Cheese or a Chicken, Swiss, Garlic & Pepper flatbread.  Come on down and check it out!

PHOTO RETAKE DAY is tomorrow morning. Every student needs to get a photo done for student records and to receive a student card. So… bring your smile!

Hey Stingers! Halloween is coming up and we want to see you in a costume this Friday! There will be a photo booth at the front of the school so you can be entered in the Stelly's Costume Contest. There will be prizes for the top 3 student costumes and top teacher costume. Hope to see you there!

GENDER SEXUALITY ALLIANCE group is starting up again and will meet on Tuesday in Room 116 at lunch. All those interested in being involved … Come check it out! Bring your lunch and wear a mask!

BREAKFAST CLUB will be returning starting tomorrow morning and Wednesday. Bagels and juice will be $.25. It's a great, cheap and easy way to start your day!  Come join the fun!

Are you interested in improving your problem solving, critical thinking and math abilities?  Writing a University of Waterloo Math Contest is a great way to develop these valuable skills. Contests are open to all gr 9-12 students and are written throughout the year.  Full information is available on the board outside room 169.  You MUST see Mrs. Hilton by Thursday Oct 29th to register for the November contests.  Next opportunity is in February. 

MORNING HOMEWORK HELP is available every morning from 7:15am in room 156. AFTER SCHOOL HOMEWORK HELP is every Monday through Thursday in the Learning Commons until 4pm.  Come on and check it out!

DREAM IT BE IT Career Support for Girls. Free Event!  Workshops & Exhibits for those age 15-24 who self-identify as female. PARENTS AS EDUCATION & CAREER COACHES - Monday Nov. 9th from 7:00-8:30 pm   An interactive workshop (virtual ZOOM session) designed to support parents in guiding their student in making informed decisions about their education and career choices after high school. Registration is required! TRAINING & EDUCATION:

TRADES EXPLORATION (TEx Program) - Want to learn more about what it is like to work as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, or welder?  There are limited seats available for next year’s Quarter 3 Trades Exploration Program, provided in partnership with Camosun College. Learn about each trade, fast track your future and earn up to 8 credits toward grad for completing 2 courses!  Please see Ms. Hackman in the Career Centre for more information.

SAANICH SKILLS TRAINING APPRENTICESHIP & CARPENTRY PROGRAM is a full 2nd semester immersion program where students learn the basics of constructing a wood frame structure from the bare ground to the rooftop. This program blends both theoretical knowledge and practical application of skills and concepts related to the trade. Successful students transition directly to Camosun College for further training as Level One Carpentry Apprentices. Please see Ms. Hackman in the Career Centre for more information.

HOUSE OF COMMONS PAGE PROGRAM   The recruitment campaign for the 2021-2022 academic year for the House of Commons Page Program is on now through November 8, 2020. Join the House of Commons Page Program and work at the heart of Canada’s democracy with students from across the country.  You must: be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, be bilingual,  be enrolled in first-year studies at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region, & have a school average of 80%.  Check out the House of Commons Page Program and apply online http://www.ourcommons.ca/About/PageProgram/Index-e.html   Closing date is November 8, 2020

UBC ENGINEERING & ARCHITECTURE OPEN HOUSE - Saturday, November 7, 2020.  Connect with professors, staff, and students to explore everything UBC Engineering and the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture has to offer. GRAD 2021

GRAD POINSETTIA ORDERS: Grads …  Do you want to decrease your Grad activity fees this year? Grab a Grad Poinsettia Order form from the Grad board in the main foyer. Forms are due back on Nov 15th.

GRAD PARENTS   The Dry grad parent committee is hosting a Zoom Meeting Call on October 28th @ 7pm to source out Volunteers to assist with this year's planning and fundraising events.  If you are interested in joining the call and volunteering, please email Michele @ mwake69@gmail.com.

GRAD PORTRAITS: November 2nd - 13th    Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Stelly's for a limited time: Monday, November 2nd through November 13th, 2020. To book your appointment, please go to the Lifetouch Grad Portrait website: schedule.prestigeportraits.ca    Enter your province (BC), your city (Saanichton) and your school (Stelly's) to log in and book your appointment. Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment (but if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook).

INTERNATIONAL

All International Students are asked to attend a Lunch Meeting on Wednesday, October 28th in the Dining Room. Lunch will be provided.

PARENTS/COMMUNITY

SD63 HAIRDRESSING PROGRAM - Studio 63 Teaching Salon is opening for business. The Hairdressing students are excited to use their skills on the public now! COVID guidelines and screening procedures are in place and clients are asked to wear a mask when visiting the salon. Hair cuts are only $5 and other services are available at very reasonable prices. Call 250-652-5381 to book an appointment and come support this great Saanich School District program.  Appointments are available: Mondays–Wednesdays 12:30-4:00 & Thursdays 11:30 – 6:00.  Studio 63 is located at the Saanichton Learning Centre,1649 Mt Newton X Rd.
