The Senior Boys Basketball Team opened 2009 with two hard-fought games which resulted in both their first loss and their first win of the New Year! Their first loss came this past Saturday, Jan.3rd at the hands of the Stelly's Senior Boys Alumni, whose size, skill, and strength at many positions proved overwhelming as the game wore on. Though our boys gave it their best effort and tried to run the Alumni's old, tired legs off the floor, the Alumni got them best of them showcased by a resounding 69 - 54 final score.
Our guys then turned around and played their first league game of 2009 this past Tuesday, Jan.6th at home against Spectrum, and after a solid effort on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor Stelly's came away with a deserving 72 - 63 win. Kudos to Jordan Elvedahl who finished with a game-high 26 points, to James Blandford who was not far behind with 24 points, and to Scott Matthews and Aaron Baerg who both did an excellent job of shutting down Spectrum's best player on the defensive end! As well, many thanks go out to the awesome fan support that was in the stands cheering the boys on - our next home game will be on Jan.22nd as the boys take on Mt. Doug, and you can check the website for the rest of our schedule until the end of the year. GO STINGERS!!
