GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

TODAY THE CAFETERIA has the choice of a Turkey Brie & Arugula on Ciabatta, Spicy Thai Peanut Chicken Wrap, Jalapeno Ranch Chicken Spinach Salad, Asian Meatballs with Peppers on Rice, Meat Ravioli with Sundried Tomato Cream sauce, Cheese Perogies with Sour Cream or Cheese & Spinach Manicotti.  Come on Down and check it out!

REMINDER that the Cafeteria Entrance is now from outside... just by the Amphitheatre. 

COURSE DROP FORMS for Semester 1 courses are available for pick up in the Counselling office. Forms are due by January 17th, 2022.

ABSENCES & ILLNESS   - A reminder that parents/guardians notify the school office every day that a student will be absent from school. PLEASE indicate if the reason for absence is for illness; the Ministry of Education requires that schools specifically track how many student absences are due to illness.  The Attendance Line is easy to find under the Quick Links on the Stelly's web page which gives the option of reporting absences by email:  Stellys_attendance@saanichschools.ca or by phone message: 250-544-0300.   Please perform BC’s K-12 daily health check before arriving at school by clicking HERE .

STELLY'S SENIOR MUSICAL THEATRE presents DISNEY'S "NEWSIES".    Tickets now on sale. The show runs from February 1st thru 5th, 2022 at 7pm, with an additional performance at 1pm on Saturday, February 5th. Tickets are $20.00 each and are available at the office. Seating is limited and masks are required for this event. 

STUDENT PARKING: Reminder to all students who are parking in the student parking lot... you need to be registered. Parking forms are available in the Main Office.

HOMEWORK HELP: Before School Homework help is at 7:15am in Room 46 and After School Homework Help is now 4 days a week until 4:00 pm. Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are for support with Math and Science. Tuesdays and Thursdays are for support with English and Social Studies.

UBC MD OUTREACH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM - The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine is hosting a virtual session to help inform students about a possible future career in medicine, via their Medical Student Outreach Ambassador Program.  Stelly's virtual session, with presenter Suraya Bondy is Tuesday, February 8, 2022 @ 11:30 am Grades 9-12.  Students interact with Suraya via Slido.com, on "questions and answers".  Your event code is # Outreach.  The students are also welcome to ask questions or respond "in-person virtually" as well.  No need to register - simply join the meeting the night of the presentation.  To join the Zoom meeting see the Saanich Career Education website at https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/ under the Events, Info Sessions and more tab.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

DO YOU NEED VOLUNTEER HOURS TO GRADUATE?  The 1st Tsartlip Scout Group in Sidney is looking for volunteers!  HELP SCOUTS CHART THEIR OWN PATH.  Through a variety of fun experiences with friends, outdoor adventures and contributions to their community, help kids build resilience and skills that set them up for life! There are lots of other ways to volunteer with Scouts!  Find out how YOU can volunteer by emailing  Commissioner@sidneyscouts.com 

GRAD 2022

GRAD SCHOLARSHIP MEETING is happening next Wednesday, January 19th at lunch in the Learning Commons. See Mrs. Laws if you have any questions.

MAGIC WAND PROJECT:  Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux, (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge). All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included. GRAD 2022 BOTTLE DRIVE is happening on Saturday, January 22nd from 9am-12pm at Stelly's School.   Please consider volunteering for 1, 2 or all 3 hours. Please bring a mask and gloves, we will have a sanitizing station also. This bottle drive is HUGE and is contributing lots to the year end grad 2022 event parents are helping with. You can also drop your bottles off anytime throughout the year at one of the three Bottle Depots in Victoria (Glanford, Quadra and Queens) and ask for the funds to be added to the Stelly's Parent Grad Account.

PARENTS/COMMUNITY

PARENTING WORKSHOP on JANUARY 17th at 7:00pm - The Confederation of Parents' Advisory Councils of Saanich (COPACS) and the PACs of School District 63 (SD63) are pleased to offer SD63 parents/guardians a series of workshops hosted by local parenting educator and counsellor, Dr. Allison Rees. The next upcoming workshop is: “Sidestepping the Power Struggle” - MONDAY, Jan 17, 7:00-9:00 pm.  In this workshop we focus on practical solutions to questions like:   "Do consequences work, if so when and how?", "How do we get kids to take responsibility?"   "How do we get out of the negative relationship patterns like nagging and power struggles?" SAANICH PENNINSULA YOUTH CLINIC is operating through Telehealth TONIGHT from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  Appointments with doctors or mental health workers are conducted by phone or video. Services are completely free and confidential for any medical concerns, to get prescriptions, or to speak with a counsellor.
