GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

GOOD MORNING STELLY'S! We would like to take this moment to acknowledge the W̱SÁNEĆ TERRITORY our school resides on...        

Here are today's announcements ...

TODAY THE CAFETERIA has the choice of a Turkey Bacon Mozza Flatbread with Peppers & Arugula, Cajun Chicken Caesar Wrap, Greek Quinoa Salad, Beef Chop Suey on Rice Noodles, Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken, Artisan Pizza (Cheese, Meat lovers, Hawaiian & BBQ Chicken) or a Cheesy Tuna Baked Pasta.  Come on Down and check it out! 

FRIDAY IS PIZZA DAY: The Cafeteria will be closed on Friday. So… it will be PIZZA DAY! It will be sold out of the Cafeteria! Only $2.50 a Slice! 

SCHOLARSHIP MEETING TODAY at lunch in the Learning Commons!

CHANGES TO MASK REGULATIONS: As indicated by the Public Health Orders, the use of masks will be optional after Spring Break. We must all respect the decision and physical space of others whether they choose to wear a mask or not.   Regardless of mask use, please continue to monitor your health and remain home if you are unwell.

WATERLOO MATH CONTEST: Last chance this school year!!!!!    Any Grade 9, 10 or 11's interested in writing a Waterloo Math Contest after Spring Break must see Mrs. Hilton in RM 37 by this Thursday March 17th to register!  Contests dates are mid-April.

ANTIGEN TESTS: Stelly's has received their shipment of Antigen test kits and were handed out last week. Students with Block 2 spares and who missed last Tuesday can pick up their test kit from the main office.

ABSENCES & ILLNESS   - A reminder that parents/guardians notify the school office every day that a student will be absent from school. PLEASE indicate if the reason for absence is for illness; the Ministry of Education requires that schools specifically track how many student absences are due to illness. The Attendance Line is easy to find under the Quick Links on the Stelly's web page which gives the option of reporting absences by email:  stellys_attendance@saanichschools.ca or by phone message: 250-544-0300.   Please perform BC’s K-12 daily health check before arriving at school.

ATHLETICS

JR GIRLS SOCCER MEETING AT BREAK IN ROOM 10 (Mr. Barchen's Rm) All Jr Girl Soccer Players are asked to attend!

REMINDER to all Basketball Players ... if you haven't handed in your uniform yet ... do so today to Mr. Hart or the main office!

Peninsula Track and Field Club's 2022 season starts soon!  Programs start April 4th and practice times are Tuesday & Thursday from 6pm - 7:30pm at Parklands Track.  You can find an overview here along with a link to register online:  www.pentrack.org/fees-and-registration.html    Trial week - an "Intro to Track and Field Week" at Parklands Track! The trial is free and you can choose to drop in once or every night from April 4-8, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. There will be a small mini-meet and wrap up BBQ on Saturday at 10:30am. CLUBS

The Social Justice Club is collecting donations for the Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine. Donated money will help support immediate relief efforts, long-term recovery, and other critical humanitarian activities, both in Ukraine and surrounding countries that are supporting displaced populations.  Every dollar we donate will be matched by the Canadian Federal government until March 18th. Thank you Stelly’s!!!

CAREER CENTRE

TRADES EXPLORATION (TEx Program) - TEx Program, in semester 2 at Claremont Secondary, can help you discover the trade that suits you and your talents best, and, lead into post secondary trades training at Camosun College. Tex combines school-based instruction with actual workplace experience in Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding and Electrical, giving a comprehensive overview of each of these trade areas.  Learn about each trade, fast track your future and earn up to 8 credits toward grad for completing 2 courses!  See Ms. Hackman in the Career Centre for more information.

Middle School Trades Exploration Summer Programs - New!! South Island Partnership (SIP) is excited to announce four Middle School Trades Exploration Summer Programs for July 2022. WOMEN IN TRADES & TECHNOLOGY EXPLORATION DAY is on Thursday, April 21st, 2022   9:30 - 2:00 @ Camosun College (Interurban).  Students will have the opportunity to participate in 2 trades and 2 technology hands-on activities.  Students do not get to pick their activities.  Trades: Electrical - Fine Furniture - Sheet Metal - Automotive Technology: Computer Science - Camosun Innovates - Mechanical Engineering - Electronics. Please see your Career Centre for permission letter and field trip form.  See the Poster on Saanich Career Education website @ https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/ under the Events, Info Sessions and more tab.

YMCA SUMMER 2022 WORK STUDENT EXCHANGE is a national program offering opportunities for youth (16 and 17-year-olds) to improve their second official language skills, explore another part of Canada, and gain valuable work experience.  This is an opportunity to live and work in a French-speaking community in Québec for 6 weeks Paid, full-time summer employment - A reciprocal homestay.  For more information see the Saanich Career Education webpage at https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/  under the Travel and Exchanges Tab.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

THE VICTORIA LITERACY CONNECTION is looking for tutors and volunteers to read with children. Both roles are only online at this point, so you would be volunteering from the comfort of your own home!  Open to ages 16+.  This is a great way to accrue your 30 hours of volunteer work! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - SAANICH PENNINSULA YOUTH HEALTH CLINIC - The Youth Action Team at the Saanich Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is looking to recruit volunteers who are interested in training for our Sexual Health Ambassador Program!  This will involve a weekly commitment of 90 minutes on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:00 pm. The clinic runs through the summer as well, so they would be especially interested in applicants who are available year-round!  For more information and how to apply go to the Saanich Career Education website at https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/   under the Volunteer Opportunities tab.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Hey Grads! This week is GRAD Spirit week. Today is “Dress like your Childhood Memories” Day! Tomorrow is “Green” for St Patrick's Day! And on Friday is “Purple + Spring Sting” Day! 

GRAD SPRING PLANT FUNDRAISER!  GRADS are offering a Spring Plant Fundraiser!  For each plant that you sell, you get $5 credited towards your Grad Dinner Dance ticket.  This is an excellent opportunity to reduce costs and get some beautiful flowers, plants, veggies, and herbs.  You can either collect orders and record your sales on the attached order form, or you can refer people to the link below to access the website.  Orders and money are due on April 14th and plants will arrive on May 3rd.  Please see Ms. Tamboline in room 43 if you have any questions.

GRAD 2022 BOTTLE DRIVE is happening Saturday, March 26th from 9am-12pm at Stelly's School.   Please consider volunteering for 1, 2 or all 3 hours. Please bring a mask and gloves, we will have a sanitizing station also. This bottle drive is HUGE and is contributing lots to the year end grad 2022 event parents are helping with. You can also drop your bottles off anytime throughout the year at one of the three Bottle Depots in Victoria (Glanford, Quadra and Queens) and ask for the funds to be added to the Stelly's Parent Grad Account.
