STELLY'S ANNUAL FOOD HAMPER DRIVE is now in full swing... Check with your Block one teacher and find out what items you can bring in to help out our less fortunate families in our community!

YOUTH IN ACTION is collecting items for homeless holiday boxes. These boxes are filled with things like NEW toiletries, socks, mittens, toques, etc. There will be a big box outside the office. please bring something to keep the people who are homeless in Victoria warm and clean. Camosun's TEAC 105 (Explorations in Technology) registration is now open for the Feb-May 2020 course!  This dual-credit course, runs on Fridays from 3-6 pm, and provides current high school students with an introduction to careers in 4 technology areas:   Computer Science, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Interested in going into the Health Care field? Check out Camosun’s New Allied Health Course Offering - This blended AHLT 104 & 134 course delivery is new, and will be offered Friday afternoons starting in Feb.  Come see a counsellor for more information or to get an application.

JDF Fire/Rescue Cadet Camp – application deadline Dec 18 - Do you have what it takes to… Run into a burning building when everyone else is running away? Handle a hose so powerful it takes two people to hold it? Dangle off the end of a rope 50 feet in the air? Use the Jaws of Life and other tools to save someone trapped in a car? The next JDF Fire/Rescue Cadet Camp runs March 16 – 21, 2020.  For information & applications, please visit the Career Centre.  Upon completion, students qualify for 100 Work Experience hours, equivalent to 4 school credits.

Magic Wand Project - Magic Wand Project is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for both girls and boys. This is a chance to borrow, rather than buy, a dress, suit or tux, (a small fee for cleaning is the only charge). All outfits are new or like-new, and all accessories are included. LATTITUDE INFO SESSION - Wednesday March 13th @ 7:00 - 8:30pm.  At the Victoria West Community Centre. This info session will give you a chance to ask questions and find out what Lattitude is all about!

TRAINING & EDUCATION:

First Aid Training – April 6  from 8:30-4:00 pm at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney. $50. This course covers initial assessment, disease prevention, secondary survey, airway obstruction, adult/child/infant CPR, & the use of an Automated External Defibrillator.

Food Safe Training – April 8
Food Safe Level 1 training:  Monday, April 8, 2019, from 8:30 - 4:30 pm, at the SHOAL Centre in Sidney. $50. Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated.  Visit the Career Centre for registration info.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange is a national program offering opportunities for youth to improve their second official language skills, explore another part of Canada, and gain valuable work experience through a work placement while on the exchange. The program runs for 6 weeks (early July to mid August), you must be 16 or 17 years of age during the summer program. DROPPING A CLASS IN SEMESTER 1: The last day for students to drop a semester 1 course is FRIDAY December 21st.  Forms are available in the Career Centre. After Dec. 21, students will not be allowed to drop a Semester 1 class and their marks will be on their report cards.

CANDY GRAMS: To celebrate the holiday spirit... Candy Grams are now on sale at lunch in the main foyer until next Monday. You can buy a candy gram with a candy cane for $0.50 or a chocolate for $1.00. Buy these for your friends and classmates to spread some holiday cheer!

Today, Dec 10th is Human Rights Day. Youth in Action is holding a bake sale to raise money for Amnesty International. Amnesty International is an organization that works to stop the abuse of human rights. Come to the main foyer at lunch to buy some treats and support Amnesty International!

HighTech U is an initiative of the UVic Computer Science Dept. This 3-step program includes a an 8-week paid summer internship working in the the high-tech industry. Once completed, graduates of the internship will be eligible for a post-secondary award towards their first-year tuition at UVic.  Application submissions are due December 31st.  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

Stelly’s Performing Arts department with special guests from Allegro Performing Arts Centre invite you to an Evening of Performing Arts on December 7th at 7pm in the MPR. Stelly’s Performing Arts department with special guests from Allegro Performing Arts Centre invite you to an Evening of Performing Arts on December 7th at 7pm in the MPR. Proceeds will go to Stelly’s Community Arts Theatre Society to help raise funds for a new theatre at Stelly’s. Tickets are $15.
