GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to the Stelly's Rowing Team for their excellent efforts and awesome results Saturday and Sunday at Elk Lake in the 31st Annual Second Regatta . With 14 schools entered in the regatta Stelly's pulled together to earn a spot (sometimes two spots) in finals for all 16 events entered. Of those finals the Stingers crews  combined for 10 podium performances winning 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze. Excellent rowing from the entire Stelly's Crew. Go Stingers!

SCHOOL ID AND  PHOTOS: There are still many school photos and I.D. cards waiting to be picked up from the office.  Photo Retake day is Monday, October 30th!  Any students that did not have pictures taken at the first photo session must get  a photo done for the yearbook and student id.  There is no charge.  If you are having retakes done you must bring back your first photo package and give it to the photographer.

LOOKING FOR A NEW BEST FRIEND? Well we've got the perfect opportunity for you! Next Wednesday, October 18th we are hosting a “Meet Your New Best Friend” gamie in the MPR at lunch. We are looking for some brave students who are willing to play this awesome game and possibly find a new best friend! Sign up sheets are posted around the school!

HOMEWORK HELP: Homework Help is now available Tuesday through Friday mornings starting at 7:30am and after school in the Learning Commons Monday through Friday until 4pm.

CLUBS

MODEL UN Meeting at lunch in Rm 70.

WE DAY: Interested in attending We Day Vancouver?  See Mrs. Wallace in Room 108 for more information and permission forms.  Don't know what We Day is?  Google We Day Vancouver 2017 to get info and see video clips. 

ATHLETICS

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM: All athletes please attend a short but very important Cross Country meeting Monday at lunch in Mrs Hilton's room 169.

SR BOYS BASKETBALL:   Any grade 11 or 12 boys interested in playing basketball this year, please come to a meeting today at lunch in the Big gym.

SWIM TEAM: There is a short and mandatory SWIM TEAM meeting starting at 11: 33 in Mr. Siebert's room today at lunch.



JR GIRLS BASKETBALL OPEN GYM: Jr Girls Basketball open gym Wednesday night at 5 pm in the small gym.

 Volunteer Opportunities

Please come to the Career Centre for info about these volunteer opportunities:
Special Olympics Bowling.  Special Olympics BC is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to serve as head coach of their 5-pin bowling program on Tuesdays 5- 6:30pm at Miracle Lanes in Sidney.
Face Painting at a Halloween Pumpkin Carving Event October 22 – hosted by the Remax Realty Group. 4 face painters are needed – experience an asset, but not required.

Training
Spaces are still available for the following training sessions:

FoodSafe Level 1 on Oct 20th from 8:30-4:30.
Basics of Banking & Finance on Oct 28th from 10:00- 11:30. 
Both courses offered by Beacon Community Services in Sidney.  Stop by the Career Centre for more info.

Victoria | SheBiz 2017

WCM SheBiz is a day-long event that features speakers from a variety of industries as well as interactive activities for young women in grades 10 + 11. Through this unique forum, the attendees will have access to business leaders, business topics, and exposure to numerous & existing career opportunities available to women in business.

Grad Portraits
Attention all grads: make sure you book your grad photos right away.  Lifetouch will have their portable photo studio here for a limited time.  To book you appointment, please go to the Lifetouch website: www.lifetouch.ca/victoria.  Don't put this off until later, or all of the appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time.  Sitting fee of $25 is due at the time of your appointment.  Information brochures are available on the Grad board in the main foyer.

PARENTS:

PARENTS AS CAREER COACHES: The Saanich District #63  Career Teachers are pleased to sponsor an evening seminar  for parents and guardians on Monday November 6th at 6:30pm at Stelly's. Marion Haythorne, a Capilano instructor, leads parents through an engaging seminar using interactive activities to explore interests/values and career pathways for their children. This seminar is not just for parents of Grade 12 students, but for all parents of High School aged students!
