GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Reminder that Friday, February 23rd, 2018 is a Pro-D day - School is NOT in session

Hey Stelly’s.... Composts are back and everyone has been doing a great job with them. It’s time for the next step though! The recyclable bottles need help being collected. This is a great opportunity for those who are in need of volunteer hours or who want to give a hand around the school. Bottle collections will be Monday’s and Thursdays at lunch. To get involved please speak with Hunter Lastiwka or see Mrs. Wallace in room 108.

SCHOLARSHIP MEETING CANCELLED: Scholarship Meeting is cancelled today. Mrs. Laws will post the notes on Google classroom and will be available in the Career Centre at Lunch next Monday thru Wednesday for anyone needing help with post Secondary applications and transcripts.

HOMEWORK HELP: Reminder that Homework Help is available everyday in the Learning Commons starting at 7:30am and after school until 4pm.

COURSE SELECTION FOR 2018/2019: Course Selection forms are due back by March 2nd to the Career Centre. Be sure to check entrance requirements to any Post Secondary programs you  will be attending! Any questions...See a Counsellor!

YEARBOOKS: Please check the Yearbook list in the office to ensure you have pre-purchased your Yearbook.

ATHLETICS 

SR GIRLS SOCCER: Sr Girls soccer try outs are right after school today and Thursday at Centennial Field.  Please bring both running shoes and soccer boots to the try outs! Please see Ms Cunningham if you have any questions.

JR GIRLS SOCCER: Tryouts for Jr Girls Soccer Team are Thursday after school at 3:15pm at Centennial Park.  See Mr. Braun if you can't make it!

CAREER CENTRE

JOB FAIR - Friday, February 23, 2018- 10am to 1pm at SHOAL Centre in Sidney. SOLDIER FOR A DAY -Feb 24th - Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve
Students aged 16 and older still have time to apply for the Soldier for a Day Work-Study Program, Saturday, February 24th! Find out about employment and educational opportunities and what is involved when in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves!  Visit the Career Centre for more information and application packages.

Marine TASK Program: Interested in trying a new program? The Marine TASK (Trades, Awareness, Skills & Knowledge) program which runs April-June 2018 (online), July-August 2018 (9 weeks) It is an introduction  to the safety practice, work readiness skills and certifications required to enter the marine industry. Check out the poster on the Career Centre Info Board for more information or speak to Mr. Rhodes to get a SIP course application package.

AVIATION SUMMER CAMP FOR GRADE 9 GIRLS
An amazing opportunity for girls entering Grade 10 in September 2018!  NAV CANADA is sponsoring a Summer Camp for 20 girls from across Canada in Ontario for one week of learning, fun, and friendship with a focus on aviation.  This all-expenses-paid camp uses hands-on learning and hopes to inspire you to explore a career in aviation!  Visit the Career Centre for more information on how to apply.

FOODSAFE Level 1 - Monday, March 5, 2018  8:30am – 4:30 pm at the SHOAL Centre Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted.   Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retail, or food processing industries. TRAINING & EDUCATION:

ALERT FIRST AID with CPR”C”& AED Saturday, May 5, 2018 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm @ SHOAL Centre  Cost is $50.00 (due February 26th) - Cash, cheque or credit card.    This fun & interactive 8-hour course trains people how to react & improvise during time priority, life threatening emergencies. This course covers initial assessment, disease prevention, secondary survey, airway obstruction, adult/child/infant CPR, & the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. This course also includes recognition & first-aid treatment for head & spine injuries, shock, bleeds, anaphylactic shock, heart attacks & strokes. Participants spend the majority of the course doing hands on first-aid training. By practising with scenarios students gain confidence & learn to react & improvise in emergency situations.
