GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Remembrance Day Assemblies
Today, Stelly's will dedicate blocks 2 and 3 to participating in Remembrance Day assemblies to honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country, and those who continue to serve, in order to preserve our Canadian values and freedoms.  This year is an especially notable year, as this is the 100th anniversary of the World War 1 armistice.  Poppies will be available at the assemblies. Please remember to bring a donation for the Legion Poppy Fund and wear your poppy proudly.

HOMEWORK HELP:  Need any help with your homework? Extra Help is available every morning from 7:15am in the Learning Commons or after school Monday/Tuesday and Thursday until 4pm! Check it out!

CLUBS

There is a Guest Speaker today for the Youth In Action meeting at lunch in room 108. Everyone welcome!

ATHLETICS

Congratulations to the Stelly's Rowing Team for their outstanding performances at the LVISSAA City Championships. The tenacious Stinger Crew finished very strong in all of their finals and placed 6th overall in the lower island competing against 15 other school programs capturing 6 Podium performances  - 4 Bronze, 1 Silver, and 1 Gold. The team was awesome showing great spirit, determination and support for one another and they were excellent ambassadors for our school. Well done Stingers!

SR GIRLS BASKETBALL: Tryouts are starting on Tuesday at 5pm and next Thursday at 3pm. See Ms. Montgomery if you can not make it!

Fire/Rescue Camp: Deadline To Apply is TODAY
Applications for the 2019 Fire/Rescue Camp are due TODAYDo you ever wonder what it’s like to run into a building that everyone else is running out of? Dream of using an extrication tool to cut up a car and extricate a victim? Think you could dangle off the end of a rope 50 feet in the air? Want to make a difference? If you have answered yes to any of the questions, you are a great candidate for the Southern Gulf Islands Fire/Rescue Cadet Camp taking place during one week of Spring Break 2019.  See Mr Rhodes in the Career Centre.

Soldier For A Day- Work/Study Program
The BC Army Reserve is hosting a Soldier for a Day program on SATURDAY, November 17th.  This program is an introduction to the role of the BC Army Reserve both here in your home community, across Canada and even around the world. It’s also worth 6 1/2 hours of work experience. Don’t wait too long to sign up, as spaces are filling up fast!

TRAINING & EDUCATION:

Have You Considered a Career in AVIATION and DESIGN?  School District #61 is hosting a semester long Aviation and Design Program @ Mt. Doug Secondary February - June 2019.   Partnering With Viking Air, Victoria Flying Club, Pacific Sky, VIH Aviation Group & Camosun College.  To register talk with Mr. Rhodes in the Career Centre.   APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY NOVEMBER 15, 2018.

District #63 Hairdressing Program
Any students interested in the dual credit Cosmo/Hairdressing Program, offered by SD#63 in partnership with Vancouver Island University, please see Mr. Rhodes  in the Career Centre to sign up for the Feb. 2019 start!

POST SECONDARY INSTITUTES OF BC & CAREER COACHING SEMINAR - Thursday, NOV 15TH

Representatives from the POST SECONDARY INSTITUTES OF BC will be at Stelly's on Thursday, November 15th starting at 6:00 through to  8:00pm to provide information about their programs, admissions and answer any questions you may have! There are 2 presentation sessions in various classrooms followed by a mini fair. Also, we are hosting a "PARENTS AS CAREER COACHES" Seminar at 6:30pm to help parents guide their children to make sound educational and career choices.
