GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Today is the last day of cafeteria service for this semester ..... There will be a Pizza and Bake sale on Thursday and Friday! $2.50 a slice for pizza

It’s Opening night for STELLY'S MUSICAL THEATRE PRESENTATION of "CURTAINS" Tickets are on sale at lunch and at the office. Tickets are only $10 for students and $15 for adults

ARE YOU CURRENTLY TAKING A SIDES COURSE? If you are interested in writing a test or exam for your SIDES course at Stelly’s during exam week, please see Mark Ashley in room 156 or Mrs Laws in the Office. Also, if you have any questions about your SIDES course, please see Mark Ashley in room 156 to answer all of your questions.

GRADE 9 to 12 AND BEYOND EVENT - FEBRUARY 21 - This event is for ALL students, including grade 12s transitioning to the world of work and/or post secondary. If you missed some of the other post secondary information sessions, this evening will be a great opportunity for you to talk to representatives from UVIC & Camosun.

DODGEBALL INTRAMURALS: Dodgeball Intramurals continue today at lunch in the large gym! Come on out and cheer on your favourite team!

CAREER CENTRE

WORK EXPERIENCE:  If you have a job where you work 5 or more hours per week you could easily log enough hours before the end of the year to complete Work Experience 12A.  If you work upwards of 10 hour per week, you could easily complete Work Experience 12B as well. This is a great chance to earn 4 or 8 grade twelve credits toward graduation.  Even though these are grade 12 courses, you can enrol if you are in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12! Anyone wishing to take advantage of this should see Mr. Rhodes in the Career Centre to learn how to get started.  Please show up with a resume and cover letter to initiate and expedite the process.

DUAL CREDIT OPPORTUNITES:  NOW is the time, for any student interested in exploring the possibility of getting university or college level programs paid for as part of your high school education.  Please see the following link on the Saanich Career Education webpage for a comprehensive listing of all of the eligible programs. TRAINING & EDUCATION:

DOORS TO OPEN TECHNOLOGY EVENT - Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at St. Ann's Academy

Doors Open to Technology event highlights the immense career opportunities available in the growing technology sector in British Columbia.  High school students who attend our events leave with new information, inspiration and experiences that help to shape their future career path. Field trip info and consent form - form needs to be printed off, filled out and then return to the Career Centre for scanning. This event is first come first serve - the first 10 students who email and send permission forms will be the ones to go!!

ANIMATION WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY
Animal Logic, a world leader in Feature Animation that creates such films as The Lego Movie 2, Peter Rabbit and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, is going to be running a second ‘work experience week’ for grade 11 students from BC at their Studio in downtown Vancouver!  Successful applicants will spend the week learning and applying a variety of computer animation related skills. Students achieve all of their 30 hours work experience, in one fun and exciting week!  This event will be taking place March 18-22 (during Spring Break). WOMEN IN TRADES & TECHNOLOGY  – Feb. 21
Camosun College will be hosting the annual Women In Trades & Technology event on Wednesday, February 21st. Students will have the opportunity to explore and participate in activities in trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Automotive Service Technician, Sheet Metal/Metal Fabrication, plus four technology areas including Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. This is a whole day event open to a limited number of female students from SD63, and lunch will be provided. Interested students please sign up in the Career Centre.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

UVic’s TSUKINO-CON CONVENTION is looking for volunteers to help with this year's anime, games and Japanese culture convention, February 22-24. Volunteers must be a minimum 14 years of age. Tsukino-Con is a non-profit organization that supports a variety of charities including Child's Play, the BC SPCA, as well as the Mustard Seed and UVic Food Bank.  Please visit the Career Centre for more information, application form are available on line at http://www.tsukinocon.com/volunteer/

YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (YEP) JOB FAIR - Friday, Feb 15th Shoal Centre (10030 Resthaven Drive, Sidney) 10 to 12 pm

This is a great opportunity to meet employers interested in hiring students for summer or part time jobs. Come and learn about the employment opportunities in the area and how your skills and interest can benefit. Employers will have applications on hand and will be prepared to interview students at their tables, so dress for success, bring your resume!

FAIRMONT EMPRESS HIRING FAIR – Jan. 24
The Fairmont Empress Hotel is holding a hiring fair at the hotel on Thursday, January 24th,  9 am - 12 pm. There are many temporary summer positions and part-time permanent entry level positions available for interested students. Choose from roles in the housekeeping, banquets and stewarding areas. Competitive wages. Be prepared with your resume for an on the spot interview!  Visit the Career Centre for more information.

GRAD 2019

GRAD TRANSITIONS: Grad Transition paperwork deadline is March 8th ...that is less than 2 months away! All required paperwork is available in the Career Centre, online thru the Stelly’s website or the Saanich Career Education website. Don't delay get it done today!

GRAD PHOTO RETAKES are happening on Jan. 30th & 31st - Online booking is now open. Be sure to book as soon as possible as the spots fill up quickly!

BAYSIDE PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT FUNDRAISER - Feb 18th

Bayside Middle School Grade 7 French Immersion Class is holding a Photo Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on Family Day February 18, 2019 to help offset the travel costs associated with their trip to Quebec in May 2019. Entry fee is by donation (suggested donation $5 per person…$20 per family).  Prizes will be awarded to the top finishing teams.  All registered participants will also be eligible for random draw prize giveaways. https://baysidescavengerhunt.wixsite.com/quebec2019  Registration is at the event from 10:00am to 12:00am at Bayside Middle School. Please come out and support this wonderful family day event for all ages.

PARENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED   - The Stelly’s Breakfast Program is in need a  parent volunteer for Wednesday mornings from 7:30 am to 9am. The Stellys breakfast program is open to all students and is a simple self-serve bagel breakfast. Appreciated by students that take before timetable classes, that accidently sleep in,  those in financial need, and for those that just want to have breakfast with their friends. It is our mission to help all hungry tummies became happy tummies for more effective learning. Please consider helping if you can!
