GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome back to the Music Department who just returned from their Annual Adventure to Portland and Seattle. Many Thanks to all of the parents and chaperones who helped to make this trip happen!

GRADS if you missed the Grad assembly last Thursday..... Please come to the Art Room at Lunch on Thursday to pick up your Grad Package and get a recap of the info you missed!

SCIENCE FIELD TRIP: Are you interested  in  forensic science, fossils,  and archaeology? Come to the Learning Commons and get the permission form from Mrs. Kedves or Andrea. All forms need to be handed in by this Friday.

Grad Executive 2020: Are you a grade 11 student interested in joining next years grad exec? We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible and committed grade 11 students to start planning for GRAD 2020. Applications  are now available on the grad board in the main foyer. Applications are due this Thursday April 11. Please see Mrs Dildy or Mrs Hilton for more information.

Feeling down that Spring Break is over?  How about starting to plan for next year's Spring Break!  We are having a student and parent meeting for the France 2020 trip tonight at 6pm in room 108.  This trip is open to Grade 9-12 students in either English or French Immersion.  Interested but can't make it on Tuesday?  Contact Mrs Wallace by email or in room 108 for more info.

HOMEWORK HELP:  Need any help with your homework? Extra Help is available every morning from 7:15am in the Learning Commons or after school Monday/Tuesday and Thursday until 4pm! Check it out!

Youth In Action club is hosting a drive to help homeless members of our society. Please support us by bringing clothing and hygiene supplies to the box in the main foyer. There are posters around the school with ideas of what is needed by the Victoria Cool Aid Society.  Collecting will continue until April 20.

UVic Medical Program Info - May 7
Are you interested in becoming a doctor? Do you know you can earn your MD at UVic? The Island Medical Program delivers the UBC MD Undergraduate Program in partnership with the University of Victoria and Island Health. Learn more about the MD admissions process at the upcoming high school information session on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from 6:30-8:00 pm, in the UVic Medical Sciences Building, room 105.

Saanich Summer Internship Program - Saanich Parks & Recreation: Summer Internship Program is designed to support youth ages 16-18 years to gain valuable work experience. Mentored part-time and full-time placements are available in summer camps and community settings throughout Saanich. Interns receive up to $500 for completing the program!  Application deadline is May 15.  Apply by sending an e-mail to Alana.Goddard@saanich.ca  explaining why you want to be a summer intern or phone 250-475-7624 for more information.

TRAINING & EDUCATION:

DESTINATION UVIC - May 25th -  UVic encourages all admitted students to attend DestinationUVic on May 25 where they will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with an academic advisor, visit the info fair and connect with student services on campus and take an in-depth campus tour.  There will also be Reg 101 workshops to attend on campus that day.  Students who attend Destination UVic will be eligible to win a tuition credit towards their first year at UVic – one of two $500 prizes and one grand prize of $1000.  Students can register to attend online.  Please go to https://www.uvic.ca/future-students/undergraduate/events/destination/index.php  to register and to get more information about this event.

Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps ADMIRAL BUDGE is recruiting!! FREE Training Program - Wednesday nights 6:30 - 9:00 pm - 9565 Hurricane Road, North Saanich, BC.  Receive Training in: Safe boating and sailing - Navigation and seamanship - Communication and teamwork - Citizenship - Air rifle marksmanship.  Added bonuses include: Earn high school credits, community service hours and receive scholarship opportunities. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are wanted to help at the Victoria International Jazz Fest! - Calling all music students! If you play any of the following instruments, we need you! Guitar - Trumpet - Keyboard - Trombone - Double Bass - Alto Saxophone.  The JazzFest is looking for music students to help with this year’s Tom Lee instrument petting zoo, on June 22/23 and June 29/30. The petting zoo includes a Tom Lee employee supervising, and a high school student at different instrument stations helping kids try out each instrument. Reminder to families about the Parent Education Presentation happening tonight from 6:30-8:30pm, at Bayside Middle School on what students are learning about substance use, sexual orientation, gender diversity and modern masculinity. Presenters will include:  Michelle Joyce (SD 63 Police Liaison),  Lux Welsh (Ambit Gender Diversity),  Nick Sandor (Island Sexual Health). It is free, but please register at Sexuality and Substance Use Awareness
