Trades Exploration (TEx Program) - The semester 2 (2020) TEx Program, at Claremont Secondary, can help you discover the trade that suits you and your talents best, and, lead into post secondary trades training at Camosun College or our other partner post-secondary institutions. Tex combines school-based instruction with actual work-place experience in Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding and Electrical, giving a comprehensive overview of each of these trade areas. Learn about each trade, fast track your future and earn up to 24 credits toward grad for completing 6 courses! TEAC 105 - Explorations in Technology - Do you want to explore Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science? TEAC 105 explores these four technologies through hands-on activities and project-based learning. This dual-credit course is offered in partnership with Camosun College and runs on Friday afternoons at Camosun Interurban Campus from 3- 6 pm, from September to February. TRAINING & EDUCATION:
City of Victoria's Youth Leadership in Training Program - If you are 14-18 years old and have an interest in recreation and/or child & youth care!! This summer program consists of 2 weeks of leadership training at Crystal Pool in July, 4 weeks of City of Victoria summer camp placements, plus team building out-trips. Upon completion of the program, successful participants receive a $500 honorarium, a certificate, and a letter of reference. Engineering for Kids. Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers!! - Our amazing volunteers assist our Camp Leaders in delivering fun hands -on learning activities at week long camps where we build catapults , launch rockets, solve engineering challenges in Minecraft, program LEGO robots to explore the moon, and more! Our camps include lots of outdoor games and activities, and trips to local parks, pools and water parks. See the poster on Career Info Board for all the details.
Kelset Elementary School is looking for volunteers to help with their Spring Fair on June 7th. Volunteers are needed to run carnival games, face painting, craft tables, ticket booths. The fair runs from 5-8 pm, extra volunteers are also needed for set-up and clean-up. Contact Sara at: slawton@beaconcs.ca
Step Up Youth Program - Island Health’s Volunteer Program for Youth. Volunteer opportunities at both Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital. All Youth in Grades 9-12 (Minimum age is 14). Application due: June 30th (accepted on a first come first serve basis) Interviews: July, Training: August. Volunteers Needed for the iCan Bike Program at Pearkes Rec Centre July 8-12
iCan Bike camp teaches children with cognitive and/or physical challenges how to ride a two wheeled bike. Volunteers must be physically fit enough to walk, jog, and run beside riders. See the poster on Career Centre Info Board.
Volunteers needed for Brentwood Festival June 1 at Pioneer Park. Help at this fun family event featuring artisans, concertsand farm stands. Our station involves children activities such asface painting, and children crafts. 4 volunteers needed for each shift. Shifts are 9-1 and 12-4, or stay the day! DESTINATION UVIC - May 25th - UVic encourages all admitted students to attend DestinationUVic on May 25 where they will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with an academic advisor, visit the info fair and connect with student services on campus and take an in-depth campus tour. There will also be Reg 101 workshops to attend on campus that day. Students who attend Destination UVic will be eligible to win a tuition credit towards their first year at UVic – one of two $500 prizes and one grand prize of $1000.
