GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY TODAY! IF YOU HAVE A BLOCK 1 CLASS AND DIDN'T GET YOUR PHOTO TAKEN YET, PLEASE HEAD DOWN TO THE LARGE GYM AND GET 'ER DONE! All students in all grades need to have school photos taken for school identification purposes.   

 SCHOOL BUS CARDS:  New school bus cards have arrived ... please drop by the office to  pick up yours!

 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, September 24, at lunch time in the Small Gym. Lunch will be provided. Please remember to wear a mask!

 SCHOOL FORMS – Reminder to please return all of your school forms and fee payments ASAP. If paying with a cheque, please make it out to "SD#63".

STUDENT PARKING: All students who are parking in the student parking lot need to be registered.  Registration forms are available in the main office.

HOMEWORK HELP is available every morning from 7:15am in room 156.

CAREER CENTRE

TRAINING & EDUCATION:

ALERT FIRST AID with CPR”C” & AED - Sat, Oct 24, 2020 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm @ SHOAL Centre 10030 Resthaven Drive. Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted.  This fun & interactive 8-hour course trains people how to react & improvise during time priority, life threatening emergencies. This course covers initial assessment, disease prevention, secondary survey, airway obstruction, adult/child/infant CPR, & the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. This course also includes recognition & first-aid treatment for head & spine injuries, shock, bleeds, anaphylactic shock, heart attacks & strokes. Participants spend the majority of the course doing hands on first-aid training. By practicing with scenarios students gain confidence & learn to react & improvise in emergency situations. TEAC 105 COURSE AT CAMOSUN - EXPLORATIONS IN TECHNOLOGY - You can now register for the FEBRUARY session. Program runs Fridays, 3-6 pm - February 5 - May 8, 2020.  Deadline for Registration Tuesday, September 29th, 2020. This dual-credit course provides current high school students with an introduction to careers and basic skills in Computer Science, Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Students will complete a hands-on project in each of the 4 areas as they explore potential career and post-secondary options within the 4 technology areas. Students will earn 4 grade 12 credits. See the Career Centre for more information 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

CANUCKS AUTISM NETWORK provides year-round sports and recreation programs for individuals with autism.  Their volunteers work in a fun and fast-paced sports and recreation environment offering high levels of support to their participants (most programs offer 1-1 support). Volunteers do not need any prior experience to be part of their programs – a training session as well as hands-on training during the program will be provided.  A number of different sports, social, recreation, and other programs are run in Victoria. Programs take place on weekday evenings and weekends and last for one to three hours, depending on the selected program. Volunteers would be asked to support a program, once per week, for one season. Alternatively, volunteers can join substitute lists to step in and lend a hand when needed! Students interested in volunteering can visit   www.canucksautism.ca/volunteer or send an email to volunteer@canucksautism.ca with any questions.  Please note that volunteers must be 16 years or older.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Positive Path Early Learning is looking for a “Centre Helper”. Must enjoy being in the presence of young children from 2.5 to 5 years of age. Must be flexible in attitude and open to helping in ALL areas of the child care centre.  This includes cleaning, organizing and preparing materials. Must be willing to obtain a CRC and Food safe certificate. Must be willing to be coached on work expectations, decorum used in the workplace and general business etiquette. If Interested email PositivePathEL@outlook.com  your resume with a cover letter detailing the reason you would like to work with young children.
