GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

TODAY THE CAFETERIA has the choice of a Turkey Bacon Mozza Panini melt with Peppers, Cajun Chicken Caesar Salad, Greek Quinoa Salad, Beef Chop Suey on Rice, Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken, Perrogies with Sour Cream & Salsa or Artissan Pizza: Meatlovers, BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian or Cheese.   Come on Down and check it out!

After knocking off traditional power houses of Belmont and Claremont our Sr. Girls Volleyball Team had another great night of volleyball placing second in the Vic Lindahl Cup! Way to go stingers!!

WORK EXPERIENCE 12A or 12B -If you are enrolled in work experience 12A or 12B and have not picked up your handbook, could you, please come to the Career Centre ASAP!!

The first University of Waterloo Math Contests are only a few weeks away!  Any Gr 9 to 12's interested in writing the November contests need to register with Mrs Hilton in room 37 before the end of the day Monday October 25th.  Everyone welcome!

SCHOOL BUS CARDS - If you have registered to ride the school bus, bus cards have arrived.  They will be handed out to students TODAY at lunch time in the main foyer.  The bus drivers will be expecting students to show their bus cards this week. Note: These cards cannot be altered in any way, and a replacement fee of $10 will be charged if cards are lost.

SCHOLARSHIP MEETING - There is a scholarship meeting TODAY at lunch in the Learning Commons. Any questions ... see Mrs. Laws in the office!

STUDENT PHOTO PACKAGES & ID CARDS - If you missed picking up your student I.D. card and photo package last week, they can be picked up in the main office. 

GOOGLE ACCOUNT DISABLED??? - If you find your google account is disabled, the only fix is to do the approval on the school's website main page on one of the windows machines. It will take 15 mins after that for it to reactivate.

PHOTO RETAKES -  TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26th   -  If you missed getting your school photo taken, Photo Retake Day is TUESDAY morning, Oct 26th.. Purchasing photos is optional, but all students in all grades need to have school photos taken for school identification purposes (grade 12’s too - even if you are having grad photos taken). If you want to replace the September photo, students must return their full photo package + Student ID card to the photographer on Photo Retake Day.

STUDENT ABSENCE OR LATE:  If a student will be absent or late for class, we ask that parents/guardians either email  stellys_attendance@saanichschools.ca or phone the Attendance Line 250-544-0300 to let the school know.

MORNING HOMEWORK HELP is available every morning from 7:15 am in room 156.

Cross country athletes who are racing at Islands today must meet in Mrs. Hilton's room (Room 37) at the beginning of lunch!

CLUBS

SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB: Stelly's Social Justice Club, recently called Youth In Action, will be starting today at lunch in room 30.  All students and staff are welcome to join us as we choose ways to actively make a difference in the world.  See Mrs. Wallace in room 30 for more info. 

CAREER CENTRE

The recruitment campaign for the 2022-2023 academic year for the House of Commons Page Program is on now taking place until November 7, 2021.  Join the House of Commons Page Program and work at the heart of Canada’s democracy with students from across the country.  You must: Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, Be bilingual, Be enrolled in first-year studies at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region.  Have a school average of 80%.  For more information see the Saanich Career Education website at https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/

WorkBC is excited to announce their Careers with Animals Employer Showcase on Friday, November 5th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  They will be hosting several different employers who work with animals.  Presentations will be a little under 30 mins in length including Q&A.  For more information see the Saanich Career Education website at https://careered.sd63.bc.ca/

BC YOUTH PARLIAMENT SESSION -  December 27-31, 2021 (Victoria, BC)  Every year, 97 youth aged 16 to 21 from across the province travel to the British Columbia Parliament Buildings in Victoria for a five-day simulation of the Westminster Parliamentary System, legislating bills that govern the organization’s community service projects for the remainder of the year, hearing from a large number of speakers from around the community, and engaging in a wide variety of fun social activities.  Applications for the 93rd BC Youth Parliament (BCYP) are now open. The application deadline is October 26, 2021. ALERT FIRST AID with CPR ”C” & AED - NEW FORMAT: Blended online and in class.  Online: emailed to you two weeks prior to class date and on Saturday, November 6th, 2021 - 12:00 am to 4:30 pm in class  @ SHOAL Centre 10030 Resthaven Drive.  Cost is $50.00 - Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted.  CRC Emergency First-Aid with CPR "C" Blended Learning - This fun and interactive 4 hours online and 4.5 hours in-class course trains people how to react and improvise during time priority, life threatening emergencies.  The online component covers care for adults, children, and babies. FOODSAFE LEVEL 1 - Saturday, November 13th, 2021 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm @   SHOAL Centre 10030 Resthaven Drive Cost is $50.00 (Cash, cheque or credit card is accepted).  Foodsafe Level 1 - This 8 hour food handling, sanitation and work safety course is designed for front line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers and deli workers. The course covers important food safety and worker safety information including foodborne illness, receiving and storing food, preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing. VIRTUAL PARENTS NIGHT AT UVIC ON OCT 28th & NOV 24th at 6pm - Parent nights are for parents and guardians of high school students, but your students are welcome to join you! In these online events, we'll answer your questions about admission requirements, scholarships and upcoming application deadlines, and offer advice on helping your children successfully transition to life in university. Events are scheduled in Pacific Time. GRAD PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST is happening at Lunch next Wednesday, October 27th in the outdoor amphitheatre. Sign up your team of 3-4 grads on the Google form on the grad instagram page.

GRAD 2022 CLOTHING ORDER - Fall GRAD clothing online ordering is open now until November 10. Clothing will arrive in early December.  Final clothing order will take place in the spring.  

GRAD POINSETTIAS SALE- A fundraising opportunity to reduce the cost of your Grad Dinner/Dance ticket!  We have Poinsettias for sale via the Growing Smiles Fundraising group.  Simply share the link with your friends/relatives/teachers and ask them to leave YOUR name in the memo field OR print off an order form, fill out the info, collect the money, and return to Ms Tamboline (Room 43) by November 10th.  Flowers will be picked up on November 30th in the dining room.  You are responsible for arranging the pickup for your flowers.  Any questions, please come see Ms Tamboline.

GRAD PORTRAITS: Nov. 1st through Nov 9th, 2021 - Grads, it is time to book your grad photos. Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch is bringing their portable photo studio to Stelly's for a limited time: Nov 1st thru 9th, 2021. To book your appointment, please go to the LINK on the Stelly's website GRAD PAGE. Enter your province (BC), your city (Saanichton) and your school (Stelly's) to log in and book your appointment. Don't put this off until later, or all of the on-site appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time. Sitting fee of $25 (cash or cheque) is due at the time of your appointment (but if you know you are not purchasing photos, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook).

GRAD 2022 BOTTLE DRIVE is happening this Saturday, October 23rd from 9am-12pm at Stelly's School.   Please consider volunteering for 1, 2 or all 3 hours. Please bring a mask and gloves, we will have a sanitizing station also. This bottle drive is HUGE and is contributing lots to the year end grad 2022 event parents are helping with. You can also drop your bottles off anytime throughout the year at one of the three Bottle Depots in Victoria (Glanford, Quadra and Queens) and ask for the funds to be added to the Stelly's Parent Grad Account. Thank You for your continued support!!

INTERNATIONAL

International Vancouver Day Trip is happening on Thursday, November 4 - Registration forms are now available in the International Office for International Students. The Cost is $85.00. Completed forms are due by Wednesday, October 27th.

2021 GRAD DIPLOMA: Parents if you have an older child who graduated in June 2021, their Dogwood Graduation Diplomas are available in the office for pickup.  Younger siblings are welcome to pick them up.
