FRANCE & ITALY 2019 SPRING BREAK: Do you want to go to France and Italy on Spring Break next year? There will be a meeting today at lunch with  Ms Liberatore  in room 144.

A
Women in Trades and Technology Exploration Day is taking place at Camosun College on February 21st, from 9:30-2:00. Ladies you can check out important and well paying careers in the following:
Trades - Electrical, Auto Service, Sheet Metal/Metal Fab, and Carpentry.
Technology- Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering.

NEW COURSES OFFERED THIS SEMESTER: (Must register before Feb 6th)

BLENDED EXPLORATIONS IN TECHNOLOGY AND THE TRADES (4 credits, does not meet Applied Skills Grad Requirement) See Mr. Douglas for more Info. (Block 1 - Grades 10-12) Would you like to create a live edge coffee table, custom metal sculpture, stained glass project, gift designed on a computer controlled router? In this course you are able to design your own personal projects that meet your interests while learning how to use a variety of materials, shop tools, and technologies.  

FOLK ART (4 credits, meets Applied Skills Grad Requirement for Grade 10 only) See Mr. Lockhart for more info. (Block 2 - Grades 9-12)  This class emphasizes the use of design,elements and principles of art to produce creative art work. Wood will be a primary medium in individual projects. The use of hand and power tools help facilitate students creations.

GREEN ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES (4 credits, meets Applied Skills Grad Requirement) See Mr. Lockhart for more info. (Block 3 - Grades 10-12) Interested in studying the future? This course focuses on learning about Solar Power,Wind Power,Hydroelectric power,Geothermal Energy,Biomass and Biofuels.

SCHOOL BASED & DUAL CREDIT TRADES CREDIT... There are 2 Parts to this  program for 8-20 credits. (Meets Applied Skills Grad Requirement) See Mr. Rhodes or Mr. Lockhart for more info. (Block 4  - Grades 10-12)

Part 1: “Tool Time” (with Tim) 8 credits: Arouse your spirit of inventiveness and develop confidence and competence as you become an expert at using a wide array of hand and power tools as well as stationary equipment in a fun and safe setting.  Tool timid? You’ll get over your inhibitions as you experience success using all sorts of new tools.  Bit of a tool expert?  Take it to the next level and enhance your skills by creating and building cool artifacts with your new found expertise.

This course combines an online learning component with face to face, tactile activities and projects in the shop.  Students will receive a college level “dual credit” course credit from Camosun college as well as a regular Tech Ed course credit upon successful completion of this unique course pairing. Note there is a $42 application fee for Camosun.

Part 2: Successful completion of the “Tool Time” course pairing satisfies the prerequisite for students to participate in a 9 Week Full Time Marine Trades Explorations Program at Camosun this summer

Three post secondary courses for 12 credits: Pipe fitting, Electrical, Metal Fabrication, Welding, Marine Service Tech, Engine Fitter, Carpenter/joiner, Operations Rigger and Seafaring.

PARENTS AFTER GRAD MEETING - Meeting on Monday at 7pm in the Learning Commons.

GRAD & PARENT CONTACT FORMS:  A purple Grad & Parent Contact form was included in the package of forms sent home in September. Only 40 were returned to the office. These forms are needed in order to contact Grads and their parents to inform of upcoming events and participation in grad activities! If you have not done so please submit a form ASAP.

S.C.A.T.S. VALENTINES DANCE - FEB 10th

The Society for the Community Arts Theatre is hosting a "Valentines Dance" on February 10th at the Saanich Fairgrounds to raise funds for a new theatre at Stelly's. Featuring the Commodores Big Band, Bayside Big Band and the Stelly's Jazz Band. Tickets are available at the main office. $20 each.

PARENTING CONFERENCE - March 3rd
2018 Vancouver Island Parent Conference: Parenting Now for the Future. Saturday March 3, 8:30-4:00 @ Royal Bay Secondary School. Workshops and education on Social Media, Internet Safety, The Creative Mind, Beyond the Talk, Self-Regulation, Connected Parenting, Bullying, Anxiety.  Featured speakers: Barbara Coloroso and Jennifer Kolari.  Visit www.vipc.ca for info or to register.
