Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

As you know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-class instruction was suspended by the provincial
government in March. Since that time, Saanich students have been engaged in remote learning.
Students have been provided with a variety of learning opportunities including online video
conferencing and activities, extracurricular activities as well as having the option of part-time in-class
learning for the month of June.

The Ministry of Education has indicated that work done before the suspension of in-class instruction
should be given priority in student final assessments. It is also important to note that work
completed between April and June will still be assessed as part of students’ final mark on their June
report card.

The last few months have been unique in their challenges, but also exceptional because of the
growth and learning that has taken place for all of us. Our district staff greatly appreciate the support
of our community during this time of unprecedented change.

We hope that you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to returning to school again in
September.

Sincerely,

Dave Eberwein
Superintendent of Schools
