District/Authority Scholarships

DONOR:

Provincial Government (B. C. Ministry of Education)

VALUE: $1,250. Each qualifying candidate receives a $1250 tuition voucher to attend an accredited post-secondary institution to pursue career-oriented studies, normally no later than five years following their graduation.
TENURE: To encourage and support outstanding students planning to enter post-secondary education; to acknowledge excellence in fields other than academic. These awards are redeemable at post-secondary institutions that are accredited and designated for Canada Student Loans by the Ministry of Advanced Education.
CRITERIA: To be eligible for a District/ Authority Award the applicant must:

a) Show superior achievement in one of the following speciality areas: 

FINE ARTS (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music), 

APPLIED SKILLS (Business Ed, Tech Ed., Home Economics), 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (not limited to Physical Education), 

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES (including Aboriginal Languages), 

COMMUNITY SERVICE, 

INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES & CULTURE

TECHNICAL TRADES & TRAINING (Carpentry, Automotive, Culinary Arts, etc)

b) Fulfil the graduation requirements for either the 2004 Graduation Program or Adult Grad Program

c) Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant)

DEADLINE: Annually on May 15th or the following school day
PROCEDURE: a) Complete a District Application Form. Include a Curriculum Vitae/Resume and one letter of reference from a speciality teacher or coach along with a transcript of grades and SIN number.
SELECTION: Selection will be made by School District #63 Administration in conjunction with Stelly's Scholarship Committee.
